Lee Hyun-se explained
Lee Hyun-se (ko|이현세; Hanja: 李賢世; born June 13, 1956) is a South Korean cartoonist, and the former president of the Korea Cartoonist Association.[1] He is currently the chairman of KOMACON and a professor at the Department of Comic Animation at Sejong University.[2]
Lee is Korea's leading comic ("manhwa") artist. His works have commented on current events and embraced public frustrations.[3]
Early life and education
Lee was born in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. He grew up in Gyeongju, South Korea, graduating from graduated from Wulseung Elementary School (ko|월성초등학교|label=none), Gyeongju Middle School (ko|경주중학교|label=none), and Gyeongju High School (ko|경주고등학교|label=none).
Career
Lee debuted in 1978 with The River Knows (ko|저 강은 알고있다|label=none) that covers the Vietnam War. His major works include A Daunting Team (ko|공포의 외인구단|label=none), Mythology of the Heavens (ko|천국의 신화|label=none), Ring of Hell (ko|지옥의 링|label=none), , Armageddon (ko|아마게돈|label=none), Police (ko|폴리스|label=none), Birdie (ko|버디|label=none), and others. Actor Joe Sang-gu is an old friend of Lee Hyun-se, and he is the real model for Oh Hyae-sung / (Kkachi), the main character of A Daunting Team.
