Koviloor is a village located in Vattavada panchayat of Devikulam taluk in Idukki district in the Indian state of Kerala.[1] It is situated around above sea level near the Tamil Nadu border. It is east of Munnar.[2] The village is known for growing a wide range of vegetables and fruits through terrace farming.[3] The majority of the population speaks Tamil, as the region borders Tamil Nadu.[4]
The name Koviloor is a combination of two Tamil words:, which means ''temple'' and, which means "village", thus it literally means the "village of temples".[5]
The economy of Koviloor is built on agriculture, with farmers constituting the majority of the population. There are many farmlands surrounding the village that use traditional agricultural practices to grow crops like carrots, garlic, beans and cabbage. There are also several strawberry farms near the village. Vegetable cultivation is also widespread in neighboring villages like Vattavada, Pazhathottam, Chilanthiyar and Kottakamboor.[6]
Koviloor village has limited public transportation. There are some private and KSRTC buses plying here from Ernakulam.[7] Farmers mainly rely on these bus services to transport their produce to town. Trip jeeps are also available to Munnar.[8]
