Konrad Laimer (born 27 May 1997) is an Austrian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder and right-back for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the Austria national team.[3]

Club career

Red Bull Salzburg

A youth product of Red Bull Salzburg, Laimer made his Erste Liga debut with the reserve team and breeder club Liefering on 2 May 2014 against SV Horn.[4] He made his first team debut at 28 September 2014 against Rapid Wien. He replaced Alan in added time.[5]

RB Leipzig

On 30 June 2017, Laimer moved to Germany and joined RB Leipzig on a four-year deal.[6] Laimer's deal was due to run out in 2021, but he later signed a contract extension until June 2023.[7] He won the DFB-Pokal in 2022 and 2023 with Leipzig.[8] On 3 June 2023, despite their victory in the 2023 DFB-Pokal, Laimer announced his decision to depart from RB Leipzig.[9]

Bayern Munich

On 9 June 2023, Bayern Munich announced that they had signed Laimer on a free transfer until 30 June 2027.[10] [11]

On 8 August 2023, Laimer changed his number in Bayern Munich from 24 to his favorite number 27 as the number's previous owner Yann Sommer left the club.[12] On 26 September, he scored his first goal in a 4–0 away win over Preußen Münster in the DFB-Pokal.[13]

International career

In September 2017, Laimer received his first call-up to the Austrian senior squad for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Wales and Georgia in September 2017.[14] On 7 June 2019, he debuted as a starter in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying against Slovenia.[15]
