Kolai-Pallas District (Pushto; Pashto: کولئي-پالس ولسوالۍ, Urdu: ضلع کولئی-پالس) is a district in the Hazara Division of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.[2] [3] [4] [5] It was a sub-division of the Kohistan district within the Hazara division till it attained the status of a separate district in 2017.[6] [7]
Kolai-Pallas was carved as a district out of Lower Kohistan District by upgrading the old Pallas sub-division in 2017.[8] [9] On 31 May 2018, Battera Kolai was carved out of Pallas tehsil making two tehsils in total for Kolai-Pallas.[10] [11]
In the 2023 census, 787 (0.33%) people in the district were from religious minorities, mainly Christians.[12] Kohistani is the predominant language at 85.19%.[13]
The region is dominated by the Dardic people speaking Kohistani languages. Kohistani-speakers form 85.19% of the population. Shina-speakers are the second-largest group and make up 7.75% of the population, with the remaining population being mostly Pashto-speakers.
The district currently has two Tehsils.
The district is decided into 13 Wards (previously known as Union Councils), and 52 village councils.
