Kim Albrecht Explained

Kim Albrecht is a German data artist, media artist, information designer, and scholar known for his critical and investigative data visualizations. He is a professor at the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf,[1] principle of metaLAB (at) Harvard, and co-founder of metaLAB (at) Berlin.[2] Albrecht earned his Ph.D. from the University of Potsdam and is a faculty associate of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society.[3] [4] His project "Artificial Worldviews" was featured on the cover of the science magazine Nature's 10 in December 2023.[5]

Biography

Born on a North Sea island, Kim Albrecht is a renowned researcher at the intersection of data visualization, technology, and culture.[6] After earning a bachelor's degree in graphic design and a master's in interface design, he completed his PhD in media theory at the University of Potsdam under Jan Distelmeyer and Birgit Schneider. Throughout his career, Albrecht has served as a research associate at the Center for Complex Network Research with Albert-László Barabási and as Principal at the metaLAB (at) Harvard with Jeffrey Schnapp.[7] [8] Albrecht is also a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society.[9] Since 2023, Albrecht has been a professor at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf.

Exhibitions

Albrecht's works have been exhibited worldwide in internationally renowned institutions such as the Harvard Art Museums,[10] [11] the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum New York, the ZKM Center for Art and Media,[12] the Istanbul Contemporary Art Museum,[13] the Kunsthaus Graz,[14] and the Ars Electronica Center.[15] [16] Albrecht has won numerous international awards in the field of information design[17] [18] [19] [20] and his works are part of the permanent collections of the ZKM,[21] the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum[22] und des Ars Electronica Center.
