Khadijah Shah is a Pakistani American fashion designer, facing several alleged charges of rioting and vandalism.[2] [3] [4]
In May 2023, Shah was detained, after a series of unsuccessful attempts by the police to arrest her, over her alleged role in the 9th May riots.
Part of those protests in the after math of illegal arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan took a violent turn when PTI supporters exercised their democratic right of protest, however, some rioters broke into Army installations including setting fire to a General's official residence.
She was allegedly arrested for her role in leading Jinnah house attack.[5] In December 2023, she was released on bail after being denied the release despite being granted bail several times & thus clear violation of basic human rights; though still many PTI protestors languish in jail.
Khadijah Shah was born to former Finance Minister, Salman Shah.[6] She is a granddaughter of former Chief of Army Staff, Asif Nawaz Janjua.[6] Shah went to the United Kingdom for her studies and attended the London School of Economics.[6] After completing her education, she returned to Pakistan and entered its fashion industry.[6]
Shah is married and has three children: two sons and a daughter.[7] She holds dual citizenship.[8]
Shah's early exposure to fashion design was influenced by her mother, Aneela, a fashion designer.[6] The family's fashion brand, Élan, introduced in 2004, was named after Aneela's nickname, underscoring her influence on Shah's career trajectory.[6]
During the early stages of her career, Shah primarily engaged with a select clientele in the high-end market, thus establishing her brand.[6] In 2012, Shah formed a partnership with Hussain Mills Ltd., and ventured into the lawn market.[6] Élan lawn was launched on March 15, 2012, which helped expand the brand.[6] [7]
In 2014, Shah entered into a partnership with Sapphire Mills, assuming the role of creative director.[6] Concurrently, she continued to manage and develop her independent brand, Élan.[6]
In 2017, Shah left Sapphire Mills and started another fashion label called Zaha.[6] [9] Élan is also available in India.[10] [11]
In 2023, she was arrested on allegedly fake charges by Police for conspiring against the state of Pakistan due to her activity on 9th may commander house attack[12] in Pakistan
