Kansas statistical areas explained

The U.S. currently has 25 statistical areas that have been delineated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). On July 21, 2023, the OMB delineated three combined statistical areas, seven metropolitan statistical areas, and 15 micropolitan statistical areas in Kansas.[1] As of 2023, the largest of these is the Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City, MO-KS CSA, comprising the area around Kansas City, Missouri.

Primary statistical areas

Primary statistical areas (PSAs) include all combined statistical areas and any core-based statistical area that is not a constituent of a combined statistical area. Of the 25 statistical areas of Kansas, 17 are PSAs comprising three combined statistical areas, two metropolitan statistical areas and 12 micropolitan statistical areas.
