In December 2020, he was arrested in Egypt and extradited to the United States for the murder of his daughter in Staten Island, New York, in October 2019.[1]

Amateur career

Salem competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics and the 1996 Summer Olympics.[2] He won a gold medal in the light-middleweight division at the 1991 All-Africa Games.[3]

Professional career

Salem is regarded as one of the dirtiest fighters of all time for his persistent headbutts, particularly in his bouts against Randie Carver (resulting in Carver's death), Mario Veit and Joe Calzaghe.[4]
