History of the journal

The journal was founded by Roger Brumback, MD in 1986,[1] nearly simultaneously with the founding of the journal Pediatric Neurology. John B. Bodensteiner and Robert M. Shuman were associate editors; Bodensteiner would later become senior associate editor.[2] Initial board members included Jean Aicardi, Jack Shonkoff and Marvin A. Fishman.[3]

Brumback remained editor-in-chief until his death in 2013, when Patterson became editor.[4]

Residents and Fellows Board

in 2013, Brumback started a Residents and Fellows Editorial Board of the Journal. Audrey Foster-Barber, MD, PhD was the initial Associate Editor of this section, assisted by Yasmin Khakoo and Kara Stuart Lewis.[5] Alison Christy was director of the board from 2017-2021. Sonika Agarwal has been the director of this board since 2021.

Podcasts

Alison Christy started making podcasts for the Journal of Child Neurology as a member of the Residents and Fellows Board in 2016.[6] Podcasts are on a variety of topics related to pediatric neurology and are found with other podcasts connected to SAGE journals at the SAGE Neuroscience and Neurology website.[7]

Child Neurology Open

From 2014-2024, the journal was associated with a peer-reviewed open-access journal called Child Neurology Open.[8] Marc C. Patterson was the editor-in-chief from 2014-2020. Alison Christy was the editor-in-chief from January, 2021 until the journal's closure January 1, 2024.[9]
