Bloquet was born in Brussels, Belgium on 10 July 1992.[2] His father was a tennis teacher and his mother was a civil servant at the European Commission.[3] He has a brother.[3]
Bloquet started playing tennis as a child, having his father as his teacher.[4] He wanted to be an engineer until his mother encouraged him to audition for the film Private Lessons after seeing an ad looking for a teenager who knew how to play tennis.[3] Coincidentally, Bloquet's father had been a tennis teacher for the director, Joachim Lafosse, years before.[3] [5] His mother died of cancer eight months after the film's release.[3]
Bloquet speaks French, Dutch and English.[6]
He moved to Paris in 2010, where he studied acting at the Eva Saint-Paul Theatre School for three years.[7] He then studied filmmaking at Luc Besson's French: Ecole de la Cité|italic=no.[3] [7]
In 2008, Bloquet made his film debut at the age of 15 as a young tennis player in the Belgian drama Private Lessons,[5] directed by Joachim Lafosse,[8] which earned him a Magritte Award nomination for Most Promising Actor.[9]
In 2013, he had a small role in Luc Besson's black comedy film The Family, his first English-language film,[10] and appeared in Guillaume Brac's drama Tonnerre.[2] In 2014, he appeared in McG's action thriller 3 Days to Kill.[2] [11]
Between 2015 and 2016, Bloquet directed four short films; French: Conte sur moi,[12] Max,[12] French: Je suis un troc,[13] and French: Le Comble du bourreau.[12]
In 2016, he played Vincent Leblanc, the son of Isabelle Huppert's character in the French-German psychological thriller Elle, directed by Paul Verhoeven,[8] for which Bloquet was nominated for a César Award for Most Promising Actor.[14] That same year, he also had a role in Arnaud des Pallières's drama Orphan.[2] In 2017, he played K-Tron Warrior in Luc Besson's space opera film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.[12]
In 2018, Bloquet played French-Canadian farmer Maurice "Frenchie" Theriault in the American horror film The Nun by Corin Hardy,[15] a role he reprised in the sequel, The Nun II, directed by Michael Chaves and released in 2023.[16]
In 2021, he portrayed French military officer Jules Brunet in the Japanese film , directed by Masato Harada.[12]
In 2022, he played Lieutenant Chambreau in the French-Senegalese war drama Father & Soldier, directed by Mathieu Vadepied, which premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.[17] He also starred in the Netflix mystery-science fiction series 1899.[18] In 2023, he portrayed Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor in the French historical drama television series Marie Antoinette, broadcast by Canal+.[19]
His upcoming projects include Michiel Blanchart's feature debut, French: La nuit se traîne,[20] and David Hourrègue's aquatic science-fiction series French: Rivages.[3] [21]
Since 2015,[22] Bloquet has been in a relationship with actress Claire Boyé,[3] with whom he co-directed and co-starred in the 2015 short film French: Conte sur moi.[23] The couple's first child, a son, was born in July 2023.[24] They live in Paris.[24]
