John Kiarie Waweru (born 1972) is a Kenyan politician. He is a member of Parliament for Dagoretti South Constituency in Nairobi County under the United Democratic Alliance.[1] and a former Redkyulass Comedian.[2] He is popularly known as KJ from the popular show Redkyulass.[3] He also ran a comedy cartoon strip from Sunday Nation Buzz Magazine.
Kiarie was born in 1972.[4] He attended Kileleshwa Primary School for his primary education and Dagoretti High School. He later joined Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and acquired a Certificate in Information technology in 1996.[5] He obtained a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University. Before entering politics, he was a journalist at Nation Media Group and a Director for Redykulass Limited.[6]
Kiarie worked as a teacher at the Materi Girls Center and State House Girls High School before becoming a columnist for Nation Media. He left Nation Media Group to join Ogilvy Africa as an art director in 2008. In 2011, he joined Scanad as a communications consultant. From 2003 to 2008 Kiarie served as a Director at the Youth Agenda, after which he served as Director at the Athi Water Services Board from 2008 to 2011.
Kiarie was elected as the member of parliament for Dagoretti South in 2017 under the Jubilee Party of Kenya, where he finished first[7] ahead of five other candidates. As a member of parliament, he serves in the 12th Kenyan parliament. He voted yes on the 2024 finance bill, against public opinion, and later stated that the Kenyan #rejectfinacebill2024 demos were "fake edited photos". He later admitted he was wrong about their authenticity. He is in charge of the NG-CDF for Dagoretti South and has been a member of the Departmental Committee on Communication, Information & Innovation, and the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs since 2017.[1]
