John Chapman Hodgkinson (December 1883 – 5 June 1915) was an English professional footballer who played as a forward in the Football League for Stockport County and Grimsby Town.[1] He was nicknamed "Cobbler".
Hodgkinson served in the British Army as a territorial.[2] He later re-enlisted as a private in the East Lancashire Regiment during the First World War. Hodgkinson served at Gallipoli and was killed in action during an Ottoman counterattack at the Third Battle of Krithia on 5 June 1915. He was originally reported as missing in action, but his status was changed to presumed dead soon after. Hodgkinson's body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.[3]
