Jo Yoon-su (born July 21, 1998) is a South Korean actress. She is best known for her role in Park Hoon-jung's action-mystery Disney+ original series The Tyrant (2024).[1] [2] After her debut in a web drama by Cheese Films in 2019, she took on minor role in tvN drama True Beauty, followed by supporting roles in dramas such as the Netflix series Juvenile Justice, the tvN drama The Killer's Shopping List, and the JTBC drama The Interest of Love.
Jo Yoon-su had a vague interest in becoming a flight attendant. After watching The Guest, she was captivated by the characters' relationships and narratives of the characters. While not aspiring to be an actor, she felt a strong urge to explore acting.[3] [4]
Jo Yoon-su's first acting debut was in a web drama produced by Cheese Film, where she portrayed a student with a fresh and charming demeanor. In the queer short story How would it feel to kiss a friend?, she received critical acclaim for her nuanced expression of the character's confused emotions.[5]
Subsequent roles have further demonstrated Jo's range as an actor. In the Netflix series Juvenile Justice, she underwent a dramatic transformation, playing the role of a juvenile criminal named Yoon Eun-jung. Despite the stark contrast with her previous character, Jo Yoon-soo seamlessly inhabited the new role, captivating viewers with her bleached hair and fierce gaze. Moreover, in the tvN drama The Killer's Shopping List, Jo delivered a realistic and emotionally compelling performance as Kwon Bo-yeon, a daycare teacher struggling with depression.
Most recently, in the JTBC drama The Interest of Love, Jo has taken on the role of Cha Sun-jae, a police officer candidate who gradually creates tension in the relationship between the lead characters, Jung Jong-hyun (played by Jung Ga-ram) and Ahn Soo-young (played by Moon Ga-young). Jo's portrayal of the "love stealer" character has left a lasting impression on viewers, showcasing her ability to bring depth and nuance to even supporting roles.
In 2023, following Studio & New's withdrawal from its management business, Jo's contract was terminated.[6] Jo then signed an exclusive contract with Alien Company in December 2023.[7]
Jo won the lead role of The Tyrant through three auditions.[8] [9]
