Jean-Pierre Fragnière (18 September 1944 – 22 August 2021) was a Swiss academic and political scientist.[1] [2] He taught at the Haute école spécialisée de Lausanne and the University of Geneva at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. He founded the Institut universitaire âges et générations and served as Scientific Director from 1998 to 2009 in Sion.

Biography

Fragnière earned a degree in theology from the University of Fribourg, a degree in sociology from the University of Geneva, and a doctorate in social sciences and education from the University of Lausanne.[3] Ordained a priest in 1969, he then became a professor at the École d'études sociales et pédagogiques de Lausanne in 1971. He then taught at the University of Geneva and later at the University of Neuchâtel from 2005 to 2010. In 1998, he co-founded the Institut Universitaire Âges et Générations and served as Scientific Director until 2009. He also served as Secretary of the Société suisse de Sociologie, Vice-President of the Association Suisse de Politique Sociale, and was the founder and Director of Éditions Réalités Sociales.

Jean-Pierre Fragnière died on 22 August 2021 at the age of 76.[4]
