Jamie James Malonzo Orme (born July 31, 1996) is a Filipino-American professional basketball player for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).[1] [2]

Professional career

NorthPort Batang Pier (2021–2022)

Malonzo was selected second overall by the NorthPort Batang Pier during the PBA Season 46 draft.[3]

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (2022–present)

On September 20, 2022, Malonzo was traded to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel for Prince Caperal, Arvin Tolentino, and a 2022 first-round pick.[4]

On March 10, 2024, Malonzo tore his calf muscle during the 2024 PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. He successfully underwent calf-achilles surgery but the recuperation period is from six to eight weeks.[5]

National team career

Malonzo is eligible to play for the Philippines national team as a local under FIBA eligibility rules since he received his Philippine passport when he was eight years old.[6]

He was included in the 21-man pool for the 2023 FIBA World Cup,[7] where he was eventually included in the final 12-man lineup.[8]

Personal life

Malonzo is the son of an African-American father and a Filipino mother who traces her roots in Batangas. He uses his mother's maiden name, Malonzo, on his jerseys during his UAAP and PBA career to represent his Filipino roots.[10]
