Jaime Fernando Macías Alarcón (born 31 October, 1987 Guayaquil, Ecuador) is an Ecuadorian sports journalist and analyst.
Macías has been part of sports broadcasts and programs in different international channels both in Spanish and English. In his professional career in Ecuador, he worked for TC Televisión as a commentator for two world cups and the Ecuadorian Championship, as well as an analyst for the champions league in Canal Uno. He began as a studio panelist and analyst for Bein Sports’ broadcasts of La Liga in Spain along with the main European soccer tournaments for the United states at International stage. He is currently part of the talent that broadcasts the MLS for Apple TV.[1] Macías analyzes European soccer on the show Fútbol Infinito, which he co-created with Argentinean journalist Eduardo Biscayart.[2]
On 21 March 2004 Macías made his first television appearance at the age of 15, commentating the formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix for Canal Uno.[3] In 2005, Macías was part of the cast of the program Diálogo Deportivo,[4] with a segment on motor racing when he was still in high school and was part of the youth divisions at Club Sport Emelec.
In 2007 he signed his first professional contract, joining the commentary team of the Cable Deportes network, a cable network TV sports channel. In 2008, he went to complete his studies in Pamplona, Spain and became a correspondent from Europe. He was signed by TC Television for the coverage of the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa.[5] In July 2011, Macías returned to Ecuardo to join the journalism talent team at the channel along with Diego Arcos.
His arrival coincided with the acquisition of the rights to the Ecuadorian Soccer Championship by the network, which allowed him to participate in the broadcasts of the matches as a commentator and edge of the field. He broadcast with Diego Arcos the Ecuadorian Championship in 2012, 2013 and Conmebol World Cup qualifiers to 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 at "TC Deportes".[6]
During this period Macías was a correspondent for ESPN in Ecuador for the Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers, and the 2014 Soccer World Cup. Shortly after commentating on the Ecuadorian Championship Match between Emelec and Barcelona he departed from the network as he had signed an agreement to be part of the BeIN Sports broadcast team for the 2015 Copa America.[7]
Macías was initially hired only for the coverage of the 2015 Copa America held in Chile.[8] He was panel member, host and commentator at the network for 6 years. However his performance led the network to offer him a contract extension. He broadcast matches from Europe's main leagues, mainly from La Liga and Ligue 1, South American Qualifiers for Russia 2018 and CONMEBOL libertadores and CONMEBOL Sudamericana tournaments.[9]
He also covered the 2018 Soccer World Cup providing matchday analysis.[10]
In the last quarter of 2021 he was hired by the MLS to be a presenter and analyst for MLS en Espanol, teaming up with Mexican journalist, Ximena Cerberos. He conducted reports, programs and interviews on everything related to the MLS, and also covered the finals of MLS Cup 2021 and MLS Cup 2022.[11]
He was selected as one of the talents in charge of the Spanish-speaking broadcast of the matches of the 2023 MLS season, which is broadcast entirely through Apple's streaming service.
He has also worked as guest analyst on Sirius XM satellite radio, on Salvadoran channel TCS, Honduran channel TVC, Canadian channel ONE Soccer, CNN en Espanol and the British newspaper The Guardian.[12] [13]
In 2019 and 2021 he participated as a panelist at the Soccer Conference organized by Princeton and Yale universities.[14]
In February 2019 Macias together with his friend and colleague, Eduardo Biscayart, decided to create a podcast whose main objective was to publish the talks they had at the end of each European soccer matchday, which was how futbol Infnito was born.
In 2022, the program provided on-site coverage of the World cup in Qatar.[15]
In 2022 he published his memoir Tercer Arquero, which narrates stories and anecdotes that he has experienced in sport and throughout his professional career.[16]
Macías was a goalkeeper for the youth divisions of Club Sport Emelec Academy between 2003 and 2006. His last year coincided with his first and only call-up for a first division match, where he was substituted for Marcelo Elizaga. During that year he had a brief stint with the Brooklyn Knights of New York before returning to Emelec where he finished the season as a runner-up of the 2006 Ecuadorian Championship.
In 2007 Macías spent time with liga Deportiva Universitaria de Guayaquil, coached by former Barcelona SC goalkeeper Rolando Guerrero.
During his time in Spain, in 2008, Macías played in the 5th division of that country with C.D. Universidad de Navarra and in 2009 with C.D. Subiza, which was the last club that he represented.

In 2012 and 2013 he won the provincial, national and Rotax Max Championship and South American runner-up.[17]
In January 2014 he placed fifth in the sixteenth season of FWT Formula Kart Racing, which took place in Homestead, Florida.[18]
