The Journal of Child Neurology is a peer-reviewed medical journal that covers the field of pediatric neurology. The editor-in-chief is Marc C. Patterson (Mayo Clinic). Alison Christy will take on the role of editor-in-chief starting January 2025.[1] The journal was established in 1986 and is published by SAGE Publications.
The journal was founded by Roger Brumback, MD in 1986,[2] nearly simultaneously with the founding of the journal Pediatric Neurology. John B. Bodensteiner and Robert M. Shuman were associate editors; Bodensteiner would later become senior associate editor.[3] Initial board members included Jean Aicardi, Jack Shonkoff and Marvin A. Fishman.[4]
Brumback remained editor-in-chief until his death in 2013, when Patterson became editor.[5]
in 2013, Brumback started a Residents and Fellows Editorial Board of the Journal. Audrey Foster-Barber, MD, PhD was the initial Associate Editor of this section, assisted by Yasmin Khakoo and Kara Stuart Lewis.[6] Alison Christy was director of the board from 2017-2021. Sonika Agarwal has been the director of this board since 2021.
Alison Christy started making podcasts for the Journal of Child Neurology as a member of the Residents and Fellows Board in 2016.[7] Podcasts are on a variety of topics related to pediatric neurology and are found with other podcasts connected to SAGE journals at the SAGE Neuroscience and Neurology website. The journal stopped making new podcasts in 2024.[8]
From 2014-2024, the journal was associated with a peer-reviewed open-access journal called Child Neurology Open.[9] Marc C. Patterson was the editor-in-chief from 2014-2020. Alison Christy was the editor-in-chief from January, 2021 until the journal's closure January 1, 2024.[10]
The journal is abstracted and indexed in Scopus and the Science Citation Index Expanded. According to the Journal Citation Reports, its 2022 impact factor is 1.9.[11]
