Isabela Engle is an American college soccer player who plays as a forward or attacking midfielder for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She was named the Atlantic Coast Conference freshman of the year in 2024.
Engle grew up in Edina, Minnesota, the daughter of Patricia and Ryan Engle, and has three brothers. She played high school soccer for Edina High School, which she helped reach the state semifinals in 2021, finish runner-up in 2022, and go undefeated 22–0 and claim the state championship in 2023. She totaled 41 goals with 11 assists that year, including a hat trick in a 4–2 win in the semifinals and a brace in a 2–1 win in the final. She was named a United Soccer Coaches All-American, Minnesota Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, and Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year.[2] [3] She committed to the University of Notre Dame as a junior.[4] She also competed in high school track and field.[5] She played club soccer for Minnesota Thunder Academy, where she was a five-time ECNL first-team all-conference selection.[5]
Engle scored a hat trick in her second game for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2024, a 6–0 win over Samford, making her the first Notre Dame freshman with a hat trick since Melissa Henderson in 2008.[6] She quickly emerged as the team's top scorer with ten goals in her first seven games.[7] She recorded six multi-goal games in the regular season, including a brace in a 3–3 draw to No. 1 Duke. She scored in a 2–1 loss to Florida State in the ACC tournament quarterfinals.[8] She was recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference freshman of the year and named first-team All-ACC.[9]
Engle was called into camp with the national under-17 team in 2023.[4] She was included as an alternate to the under-19 team at the 2023 Pan American Games, where they won bronze playing against other countries' senior teams.[10]
