Israel Meyer Augustine Jr. Explained
Israel Meyer Augustine Jr. (16 November 192429 August 1994) was an American lawyer and the first Black district judge in Louisiana.[1] [2] [3] [4]
In 1971, he presided over a trial of twelve Black Panthers members accused of the attempted murder of five New Orleans policemen.[5] [6]
Augustine died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 1994, aged 69.[1] He was a Catholic.[7]
