Ishraqat Kanoon Explained
Ishraqat Kanoon (Arabic: إشراقة كانون) is an Islamic political party in Iraq. The party contested in 2021 Iraqi parliamentary election for the first time and won 6 seats.[1] The party is associated with the Al-Abbas Shrine in Karbala[2] and is believed to be associated with the Najaf clergy.[3] The party attempts to merge secular civil and Islamic values.[4] It got 100,374 votes or 1.13 % of the total votes in the 2021 election.[5]
It won 2 seats each from Babil and Karbala governorate, 1 seat from both the Baghdad and Al Qadisiyyah governorates.[5]
In the Council of Representatives of Iraq, the party formed a bloc of ten MPs, including 4 Independents to form the Ishraqa Bloc.[6]
