The village of Ilihue gained recognition in February 2024, where it was announced that it was the place where the helicopter of the politician, commercial engineer and former president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, crashed in Lake Ranco due to a helicopter accident, while he was accompanied by three other people, resulting in Piñera himself killed and three injured.[3] The event occurred on 6 February 2024 at 14:57 (UTC-3), being confirmed that same day around 17:00.[4] [5]
