Ileksky District (Russian: Иле́кский райо́н; Kazakh: Елек ауданы, Kazakh: Elek aýdany) is an administrative[1] and municipal[2] district (raion), one of the thirty-five in Orenburg Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 3700km2. Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Ilek. Population: 25,150 (2010 Census); The population of Ilek accounts for 38.8% of the district's total population.

Notable people

Paleontology

Fossils of temnospondyls were found in the Lower Triassic (Olenekian) deposits of Ileksky District. These extinct taxa are Parotosuchus, Rhytidosteus, Inflectosaurus, Batrachosuchoides, Wetlugasaurus, Benthosuchus and Trematotegmen.[3]
