Hylicinae Explained

Hylicinae is a subfamily in the family Cicadellidae (leafhoppers).

Description

Hylicine leafhoppers are moderately robust insects and are brownish to greyish in colouration. They feed on Dicotyledon trees and shrubs.[1]

Distribution

This subfamily is mostly confined to the Afrotropical and Indomalayan regions.

There are three tribes in the subfamily.

Hylicini

Erected by Distant in 1908.

Malmaemichungiini

Erected by Metcalf in 1962. It is monotypic.

Sudrini

Erected by Schmidt, E. in 1962.
