Hrimhari is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was first introduced in the New Mutants Special Edition #1 (December 1985), and was created by Chris Claremont and Art Adams.

Fictional character biography

Hrimhari is a descendant of Fenris and the prince of Asgard's wolves who can fully or partially transform into a wolf.[1] [2] However, he possesses a humble and gentle demeanor not normally associated with royalty. He is highly respected by the people of Asgard, and is a friend of Hogun. However, the giants of Asgard are mortal enemies of the wolf people and frequenly hunt them.

Captured by Loki

Hrimhari later meets Wolfsbane after she and the New Mutants are transported to Asgard.[3] Loki captures the two and uses special collars to force them into his servitude under the names Grimfang and Bleakheart before Cannonball frees them by destroying the collars.[4] Afterwards, they are separated when Wolfsbane returns to Earth.[5]

Fighting Hela

Years later, the death goddess Hela attempts to take over Asgard and enslaves the Asgardian wolves to serve her. Hrimhari battles her to free the wolves, but is captured before the New Mutants rescue him.[6] [7] He then travels to get help from Tiwaz, who in turn sends him to free the Warriors Three from the Hive Trolls.[8] [9] Hrimhari additionally recruits the troll queen Ula, who is initially reluctant but agrees to work with him after being convinced that Hela is the true enemy.[10] [11] [12] [13]

Back with Wolfsbane

Hrimhari is later killed during Ragnarök.[14] After being resurrected on Midgard, he reunites with Wolfsbane, and the two begin hunting Frost Giants in revenge for them killing his pack. They later have a child, Tier, with Elixir augmenting Wolfsbane's body so she can survive childbirth. Despite this, Wolfsbane almost dies and is forced to give birth orally in her wolf form.[15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] Tier is subsequently adopted by Werewolf by Night before being killed by Strong Guy during a battle with the Lords of Hell, who seek to harness his magic. The mutants of Krakoa are unable to resurrect him as Cerebro still considers him to be alive.[21] [22] [23] [24] [25] Afterward, Hrimhari is forced to join Hela's army of the dead and remain in the underworld.[26] [27]

Other versions

Hrimhari appears in the What If issue "What If the X-Men Stayed in Asgard?". He and Wolfsbane have three children, who are respectively a full human, full wolf, and hybrid.[28]
