Heteroconger obscurus, the obscure garden eel,[1] is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).[2] It was described by Wolfgang Klausewitz and Irenäus Eibl-Eibesfeldt in 1959, originally under the genus Xarifania.[3] It is a marine, tropical eel which is known from the eastern Indian Ocean, including the Nicobar Islands in India, and Andaman Island. It is known to dwell at a maximum depth of 15m (49feet), and inhabits silty sediments. Males can reach a maximum total length of 33.6cm (13.2inches).[2]
