Hath-Set is a DC Comics supervillain created by Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville. The character is the archenemy of Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

Publication history

Hath-Set first appeared in Flash Comics #1 and was created by Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville.

Fictional character biography

Hath-Set is an Egyptian priest who leads a rebellion and kills Prince Khufu and Princess Chay-Ara using a cursed Nth Metal dagger. This inadvertently causes the three to continuously reincarnate.

Doctor Hastor

During World War II, Hath-Set is reincarnated as Anton Hastor and becomes Hawkman's first foe. He kidnaps prominent scientists and creates an advanced airship capable of destroying cities, but is defeated by Hawkman and the All-Star Squadron and killed by Hawkgirl.

Infinity Inc.

In Infinity Inc., Hath-Set takes over the Infinitor Hector Hall, also known as the Silver Scarab. The team defeats Hath-Set, during which Hall is killed and becomes the third Sandman.

Helene Astar

In his most recent incarnation, Hath-Set is a spirit who can control his descendants. The Hawks travel to the Himalayas to search for Speed Saunders. Hath-Set has taken over a woman called "Helene Astar". In attempting to kill the Hawks, Astar dies. The Hawks believe that Astar was a reincarnation of Hath-Set and that Hath-Set has been permanently killed. Hath-Set goes on to make a plot with the villainous businessman Kristopher Roderic to kill Hawkman.^[2]

Alliance with Khea

In Brightest Day, Hath-Set allies with Queen Shrike while living in Peru. He battles Hawkman and Hawkgirl before the latter kills him by snapping his neck.^{[3] [4] [5] [6]}

DC Rebirth

In the DC Rebirth continuity, Hath-Set's backstory is largely the same as his original version. However, he is depicted as having founded the Judas Tribe after encountering a time-displaced Batman.^{[7] [8] [9] [10]}

Powers and abilities

Hath-Set can reincarnate into different descendants. He is also shown to be an expert at armed combat.

In other media

• Hath-Set appears in a flashback in the Justice League Unlimited episode "Ancient History", voiced by Héctor Elizondo.^[11] This version was a servant of Katar and Chay-Ara Hol in ancient Egypt.
• Hath-Set, amalgamated with Vandal Savage, appears in the Arrowverse crossover "Heroes Join Forces", portrayed by Casper Crump.^[12]
• Hath-Set appears in the DC Super Hero Girls episode "#TheBirdAndTheBee", voiced by Sean Rohani. This version consistently ruins relationships between Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
