Gaurav Gogoi (born 4 September 1982) is an Indian politician and social worker of Indian National Congress from Assam who is serving as the Deputy Leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha since 2024.[2] From 2020 till 2024, he representing the deputy leader of Indian National Congress parliamentary party. He represented the Kaliabor constituency in the Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2024, after the constituency was abolished, he is representing Jorhat constituency in 18th Lok Sabha. He is the son of former chief minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi. Gaurav left his job at Airtel to join a Delhi-based NGO called Pravah in 2005.[3]
Gaurav Gogoi was born in 1982. His father Tarun Gogoi served as Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016 as the longest-serving chief minister of the state. He graduated from St. Columba's School in Delhi. He then completed B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2004 from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi and then joined the marketing team of Airtel. He later went to the United States of America to study public administration.[3] He holds a Master of Public Administration from New York University.[4] He also enjoys dancing and choreography.[5] In 2013, Gaurav married UK-born Elizabeth Colebourn. In 2014, Gaurav joined the Congress Party and is the Member of the Indian Parliament for Kaliabor (Assumed office 1 September 2014).[6] [7] [8] He and his wife have 2 children - one son and one daughter, (born 2016 and 2020).[9]

Upon his return, he entered politics and said that he would do whatever the party wanted him to do.[10] In March 2014, the Congress Party announced Gogoi as its candidate from Kaliabor (Lok Sabha constituency). After the announcement, Gogoi filed his nomination on 19 March 2014.[1] He won his first election polling a total of 443,315 votes beating his nearest rival, Mrinal Kumar Saikia of BJP by over 93,000 votes.[11] [12]
On 8 August 2023, Gogoi lead the No confidence motion against Bharatiya Janata Party government under leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asked three questions to Modi government:[13]
“Why did he not visit Manipur to date? Why did it take almost 80 days to finally speak on Manipur and when he did speak it was just for 30 seconds? Why has the Chief Minister not been sacked the Manipur CM so far?,"[14]
Gogoi mentioned that since Prime Minister Modi choose to remain silent on the Manipur issue, opposition parties under I.N.D.I.A alliance had to move on No Confidence Motion against his government. They wanted Prime Minister to address parliament on Manipur violence.[13]
