Goleta Valley Junior High School is a public junior high school in Goleta, California, just northwest of Santa Barbara, California. It serves a student body of approximately 785 students in 7-8 grades, and employs roughly fifty-five teachers as part of the Santa Barbara School Districts.[3] Goleta Valley Junior High School ("GVJH" or simply "GV") is a National Blue Ribbon School.[4] Goleta Valleys' school mascot is the Mariner. Students are divided into four houses (as is done commonly in the United Kingdom): Sea Monkeys, Golden Vikings, Pirates, and Buccaneers. Houses often compete for House Points in traditional school spirit events, the winning house claiming the school's "Mariner Cup."
Students may take Industrial Technology one semester and either Art or Theater Art the other. If students choose to, they can audition for an advanced performing arts class or show choir, taken during the first semester. Beginning Band, Orchestra, and Show Choir are also offered year-round. Students may also take a seventh-period Advanced Band course before school, and a Spanish 1-2 class after school.[5]
