Godfrey Kirumira Kalule is a businessman, real estate developer, philanthropist and the honorary consul of Namibia to Uganda. He was born on the 9th of October, 1962 to the Late Zawedde Joyce Nakimbugwe (Princess) and the Late Muhammad Kirumira (Mr.[1])

He attended Aggrey Memorial Primary and Secondary School before venturing into business starting with the importation of Hankook Tires from Korea and bicycles. He owns a diverse business portfolio encompassing real estate, education, petroleum (downstream), and Transportation.[2] His currently estimated to have a net worth of $350 million dollars across his investment portfolio.

According to a 2012 published report, he is one of the wealthiest people in Uganda.[3]

Business Portfolio

Godfrey Kirumira started his journey into business aged seventeen importing bicycles for transportation and Hankook Tires from Korea. He currently has a diverse business portfolio encompassing real estate, petroleum (downstream), telecommunications infrastructure development, education, and private security all under the prized GKK Group.

Real Estate

Godfrey Kirumira's real estate portfolio comprises a number of commercial, residential, and hospitality properties spread around the Central Business District. He is the proprietor of International Hotel Muyenga 2000 Limited [4] and Havana Hotel[2] under his hospitality properties in addition to Kirumira Towers, a commercial property among others.

Education

The investment in education includes two institutions of learning that is, Bright Future Secondary School Bwebajja, a high school set up on along the Kampala-Entebbe Highway as well as the St. Mary's Junior School Nabbingo an elementary and primary school for both day and boarding learners.[2]

Petroleum

The petroleum business is centered on downstream activities under the Gelp.[5] Petroleum brand which runs seven petrol stations around Kampala. Through the GKK Group, Mr. Kirumira plans to venture into upstream petroleum activity with the planned Tilenga Oil Fields Exploration in the Albertine Graben initially investing $5 million.

Telecommunications Infrastructure Development

Godfrey Kirumira has partnerships with local telecommunications company Airtel Uganda Limited and MTN Uganda Limited for network infrastructure development in the form of telecom masts.

Philanthropy Initiatives

Honorary Consul Godfrey Kirumira has been a part of various philanthropic initiatives across a wide spectrum of society including sports development, business leadership, and social welfare programs.

Sports Development

Godfrey Kirumira was a patron of the local soccer club Express FC[6] for a decade with focus on developing local talent and to see the club win the local league. He is remembered for recruiting the best players in the league at the time and spending large amounts of money on remuneration citing the need to build Express FC's golden generation.[6]

Business Leadership

Godfrey Kirumira also referred to as Chairman, a name emanating from his role as a business leader in the Central Business District. He is the Chairman of Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) [7] the apex body that brings together all businessmen and traders within Kampala. His role involves the advocacy for better trade and working conditions for traders and businesses as well as guidance on the transaction of business within the city to avoid conflict with local regulations among other things.

Kwagalana Group

Kwagalana group[8] is union or club of the most prominent businessmen and owners of commercial properties in Kampala. Godfrey Kirumira is credited for being among the founders and current head of this club/group hence the title 'Chairman' where together with other businessmen, they pool resources to further their investments in real estate, transport, hospitality among other things.

Social Welfare Programs

Godfrey Kirumira supported the Buganda Kingdom's efforts of development under the project 'Twekobe Ejjude' that was focused on infrastructure development within the Kingdom. He is also credited for partaking in support initiatives for the church and other religious organizations.

Net worth

Estimates have it that Mr. Godfrey Kirumira is worth $350 million based on the returns of his investment portfolio and diverse assets under the GKK Group.
