Gharjwai (Nepali: घरज्वाईं) is a 2024 Nepali social drama film directed by Anil Budha Magar. Magar alongside Binod Khatiwada and Subash Koirala wrote the screenplay for the film. It's produced by Janak Gharti Magar under the banner of GM Movies Production. The film stars Dayahang Rai and Miruna Magar in lead roles with Shishir Bangdel, Raj Thapa Magar, Kabita Ale Magar and Buddhi Tamang in supporting roles.[2] Extensively shot in Eastern Rukum, the film focuses on the hardships and cultural depiction of Magar community in Western Nepal.[3] [4]
The film released on July 12, 2024, in cinemas among positive reviews.[5]
The story of the movie revolves around Soro (Dayahang Rai), who upon returning to his village in Taksera (Rukum) as a school teacher after the end of the civil war falls in love with a village girl Binjuri (Miruna Magar). Soro wants to marry Binjuri but her father wants his son-in-law to live with them in his house as a gharjwain after the marriage. As Soro is the only son of his parents he can't leave his father and mother to live with Binjuri. Binjuri also can't go against her father. Now to persuade his father-in-law Soro must perform different tasks assigned by him as a test of skills.[6] [7]
Gharjwai grossed रु1.51 crore in its first two days among positive response.[9] The film enjoyed good run at the box office earning रु4.63 crore at the end of two weeks.[10] After four weeks, it grossed रु5.25 crore in Nepal.[11]
