George is a city in Lyon County, Iowa, United States, along the Little Rock River. The population was 1,077 at the time of the 2020 census.[2] The ZIP Code for George is 51237.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.41sqmi, of which 2.4sqmi is land and 0.01sqmi is water.[4]
As of the census[5] of 2010, there were 1,080 people, 451 households, and 302 families living in the city. The population density was 450PD/sqmi. There were 504 housing units at an average density of 210/sqmi. The racial makeup of the city was 98.5% White, 0.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.6% from other races, and 0.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 451 households, of which 25.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.4% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 33.0% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.84.
The median age in the city was 46.9 years. 22.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 4.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.2% were from 25 to 44; 22.8% were from 45 to 64; and 29.3% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.9% male and 52.1% female.

George and the nearby city of Little Rock share the George–Little Rock Community School District, formed on July 1, 1990, by the merger of the George and Little Rock school districts.[7]
George has an elementary school and the George–Little Rock Senior High School. Little Rock has the GLR Middle School combined with an elementary school.[8]
