Gelin Explained

A Gelin (Turkish for bride[1]) is a type of female ghost reportedly seen in slum areas, and associated with some local legend of tragedy.[2] In Turkey, a Gelin is the ghost of a girl or young woman who died violently after she was abandoned by her lover. Common to the local legends surrounding the Gelin is the theme of losing or being betrayed by a husband or fiancé.

Gəlinlər (plural) are often associated with an individual family line or said to be a harbinger of death, similar to a banshee.
