Gasconade is a city in Gasconade County, Missouri. The population is 172 as of the 2020 census.[3]
Gasconade was the original county seat of Gasconade County, Missouri. The city was platted in 1857. It is situated at the mouth of the Gasconade River, from which it takes its name.[4]
The Gasconade Bridge train disaster was a rail accident that took place in Gasconade on November 1, 1855, when the Gasconade bridge collapsed under the weight of the O'Sullivan locomotive. Thirty-one people were killed.[5]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.2sqmi, all land.[6]
As of the census[7] of 2010, there were 223 people, 97 households, and 57 families residing in the city. The population density was 1115PD/sqmi. There were 138 housing units at an average density of 690/sqmi. The racial makeup of the city was 99.1% White, 0.4% African American, and 0.4% from two or more races.
There were 97 households, of which 23.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.1% were married couples living together, 14.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 41.2% were non-families. 33.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 21.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.89.
The median age in the city was 46.3 years. 23.3% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 17.9% were from 25 to 44; 29.2% were from 45 to 64; and 23.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.5% male and 52.5% female.
As of the census of 2000, there were 267 people, 105 households, and 72 families residing in the city. The population density was 1280.5sp=usNaNsp=us. There were 141 housing units at an average density of 676.2sp=usNaNsp=us. The racial makeup of the city was 96.63% White, 0.75% Native American, 1.12% Asian, and 1.50% from two or more races.
