Fred Dewilde (1966 – 5 May 2024) was a French comics artist and survivor of the Bataclan terrorist attack in Paris.[1]

Biography

Dewilde was born in 1966.[2] Attending a concert at the Bataclan on 13 November 2015, he survived the coordinated terrorist attack carried out by Islamist militants in Paris. Despite physically escaping the massacre, where he spent two hours amidst the bodies and the dying, the trauma eventually caught up with him. He published the graphic novels Mon Bataclan (My Bataclan) in 2016 and La Morsure (The Bite) in 2018, both about the Bataclan.[3] He also contributed until his death, to the creation of a Terrorism Memorial Museum, which is expected to open its doors in 2027. Dewilde committed suicide on 5 May 2024, at the age of 58.[4]
