Fenarizade Muhyiddin Celebi (; – 7 January 1548), was a Shaykh al-Islām of the Ottoman Empire from 1543 to 1545.[1]

Life

Fenarizade Muhyiddin Celebi was born in Bursa, the grandson of Yusuf bali. Yusuf bali was the son of Molla Fenari, the first Ottoman Sheykh al-Islām.

Fenarizade Muhyiddin Celebi was the son of Alaeddin Ali Fenari, the kazasker of Rumelia.

He first studied with his father, then with Hatibzade Muhyiddin and Efdalzade Hamiduddin Efendi. He was first appointed as a teacher to the newly completed Atik Ali Pasha Madrasa in Istanbul 1495/1496. Then he became a sultan in Bursa and a teacher at the Sahn-ı Semân Madrasa in 1513.

In 1519, he appointed as a judge of Edirne and of Istanbul in 1520. He became the judge of Anatolia in 1523 and the judge of Rumelia in 1524. During his fifteen-year terms as the judge of Rumelia, he was involved some important events of the Ottoman period.

He was assigned to investigate the complaints made against Ottoman grand vizier Piri Mehmed Pasha, claiming that he had accepted bribes from those who have been from Egypt and allowed them to leave.

Muhyiddin Celedi, who was a supporter of Hain Ahmed Pasha, acted unfairly in this investigation and concluded the investigation and turned against Piri Mehmed Pasha.

After the assassination of Pargali Ibrahim Pasha, he disagreement with Ayaz Pasha. In Serres, after the Corfu Campaign, Ayaz Pasha retired him with a daily salary of 150 akçec in 12 October 1537.

Later, the salary was increased to 200 akçe when he went on the hajj.

After the death of Ayaz Pasha, he began to expand his influence again.

In 1543, she became the Sheykh al-Islām of the Ottoman Empire. After 2 years and 10 months, he resigned from his post due to old age.

Death

Fenarizade Muhyiddin Celebi was died on 7 January 1548 and he was buried in Eyüpsultan.
