Eugene Lim YJ (born 1983) is the founder and CEO of The Assembly Place.[1] [2]

Early life and education

Eugene Lim was born in 1983 and grew up in a middle-income family living in an HDB flat.[3] His father is a property manager and his mother is a homemaker.

He completed his secondary education in Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School follow by his college education at Yishun Junior college where he represented his JC in Rugby and from 2005 attended the University of London, earning a degree in Business Administration and Management.[4]

During his secondary school days, Eugene was very involved in Boys Brigade(5th Company). It was during his former years in his secondary school days that he became a Christian. He spends his primary school years at Ai Tong Primary School.

Career

Before he joined the real estate industry, he was a hip-hop dancer and instructor. He has investments in two dancing schools: Distinct Creative Arts and One Dance Asia.

During his National Service, Eugene Lim served in the Commando Unit/Special Forces.[5]

In 2012, Eugene joined Knight Frank as Head of Project Marketing.[6] In 2014, he was promoted to Director, during which time he built relationships with property developers and launched around 35 projects.[7] In 2015, he took on a role on the developer side with Wing Tai Holdings(AGM of Marketing and Sales) Singapore's property developer company.[8] [9]

From 2016 to 2021, he was a marketing and sales director at Oxley Holdings Limited, launching projects in Singapore, London, Malaysia, and Cambodia. During his tenure at Oxley, he worked under the mentorship of Eric Low.[10] [11] [12]

In May 2019, Eugene Lim founded The Assembly Place, a co-living brand in Singapore.[13] The company started with six rooms and has since grown to offer approximately 2000 keys.[14] [15] [16]

In Dec 2023, The Assembly Place together with its JV partner TS group successfully won the Ministry of Health Holdings tender that will house more than 1700 foreign healthcare workers in Singapore. The company during that same month also won the management contract to manage Serene Centre a mixed development with F&B, retail and 90 rooms of service apartments that is slated to open in Q2 2025.

Under his leadership, The Assembly Place has won consecutive 3 years(2021/2022/2023) as the Best Co-Living operator award under Asia Property Awards.

In 2023, Eugene Lim received the Rising Star Award at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Singapore).[17]

Other roles

Eugene Lim also serves on the board of Art House Limited, a public company under the National Arts Council of Singapore,[18] and is a board member of Singapore Athletics.[19] He also sits on the Advisory Panel under the National Arts Council to guide on the design and execution for 45 Armenian Street, which has been earmarked as an arts space.  

Personal life

Eugene is married to a career adviser at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and they have one son. The family lives in a freehold house in the Thomson area.

Eugene is an avid athlete that completed multiple endurance races worldwide. Some of his achievements include Ironman 70.3 Geelong(2015), Vietnam Mountain Marathon 70km(2015), Oxfam Trailwalker HK 100km(2016), Formosa Trail Taiwan 75km(2019), Lantau 70km HK(2024)
