Ella McCay is an upcoming American comedy film written and directed by James L. Brooks. It stars Emma Mackey as the title character, with Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Kumail Nanjiani, Jack Lowden, Rebecca Hall, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Albert Brooks in supporting roles.
It will be released by 20th Century Studios in 2025.

It was announced in November 2023 that James L. Brooks was set to write and direct his first film in thirteen years, with 20th Century Studios set as the distributor. Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Albert Brooks, Kumail Nanjiani and Spike Fearn set to star.[1] In February 2024, Jack Lowden and Rebecca Hall joined the cast.[2] [3]
Filming began on February 1, 2024 in Rhode Island, with Brooks and the cast appearing at a press conference at the Rhode Island State House to announce production had begun.[4] It will also shoot in Cleveland, Ohio.[5]
The film is set to be released in 2025 by 20th Century Studios. This was confirmed during the induction of Brooks as a Disney Legend during the 2024 Disney Legends ceremony at the D23 Expo on August 11, 2024.[6]
