Elizabeth Shown Mills (born 1944) is an American author, historian, and genealogist. She is known for her debut historical novel, Isle of Canes (2004).[1] [2] [3] Mills served as president of the American Society of Genealogists (ASG), and was also the editor of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly.[4]
Biography
Elizabeth Shown Mills was born on December 29, 1944, in Cleveland, Mississippi.[5] [6] [7] Most of her career has been focused on researching the history of the American South. She was previously married to Gary B. Mills, also an author and historian, who died in 2002.[8]
Mills started her career as the secretary of the ASG (1992–1995). From 1995 to 1998, she was the vice president and became the president of ASG from 1998 to 2001.[9]
