Elbow (2016 population:) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Loreburn No. 254 and Census Division No. 11. Elbow was founded in 1909, near what is now Lake Diefenbaker. It is north-west of Mistusinne, north-west of Douglas Provincial Park, and south-east of Loreburn. The village got its name from its position on the elbow of the South Saskatchewan River.

Adjacent to the village is a provincial recreation site with a marina, golf course, and beach access. There is also a sod house (now a museum) and a library within Elbow.

History

Elbow incorporated as a village on April 6, 1909.[2]

In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Elbow had a population of living in of its total private dwellings, a change of from its 2016 population of . With a land area of 3.96km2, it had a population density of in 2021.[3]

Elbow Harbour Recreation Site

Elbow Harbour Recreation Site [5] is adjacent to Elbow in the RM of Loreburn No. 254. The park is centred around Lake Diefenbaker's Elbow Harbour[6] and has a 110-slip marina,[7] an 18-hole golf course,[8] [9] and an RV campground with 60 fully serviced campsites. There is beach access, fuel, laundry facilities, a restaurant, and a grocery store.[10]

Climate

Elbow experiences a Humid continental climate (Dfb). The highest temperature ever recorded in Elbow was 43.3C on June 24, 1941. The coldest temperature ever recorded was -43.3C on January 25, 1972.
