El Poder del Norte (The Power of the North) is a Mexican norteño band which was formed in 1987 in Monterrey Nuevo León. It was formed by brothers Arturo Buenrostro, the accordionist, and Martin Buenrostro, the drummer. Both write songs for the group. They were originally known as Los Pioneros del Norte. They use an electronic drum for their cumbias.
"In 1990, the music group Los Pioneros recorded their debut album titled 'La Suburban de la muerte' under Metro Casa Musical, which later became a part of Peerless-MCM, a division of Warner Music Latina. The following year, in 1991, the group released new material including the album 'Cuando Llegaste Tu' and singles such as 'El Radio' and 'Que Se Vayan Al Diablo'.
By 1993, the group underwent a transformation, adopting the new name 'El Poder Del Norte'. This period also marked a significant shift in their career as they signed with Discos Sabinas (Disa), which became their long-term record label. During their initial years with Disa, El Poder Del Norte recorded the album 'Mi decision' and produced their first music video for the song 'Como te extraño.'
The band continued their musical journey in 1994 with the release of the album 'Como llama'. This album featured notable hits including the title track 'Como llama', as well as 'En tu sonrisa' and 'Enamorada'.
El Poder Del Norte maintained an active recording schedule, producing several albums up until at least 2011. Throughout their career, they have been recognized for their contributions to their music genre, and their discography reflects a consistent presence in the music industry over these years."
