Notes and References

  1. According to different interpretations of when Duke John I and his brother Duke Albert II definitely split their commonly ruled Duchy of Saxony into Saxe-Lauenburg and Saxe-Wittenberg, either in 1269, 1272 or 1282, one can argue, that Agnes was a co-consort (if the definite split was in 1282 only) or not (if it happened before her marriage in 1273).
  2. Albert III ruled 1296–1305 with his brothers John II and Eric I. Albert ruled alone in his partitioned branch duchy Saxe-Ratzeburg until his childless death in 1308.
  3. Eric I ruled between 1296 and 1305 with his brothers John II and Albert III, thereafter alone in his partitioned branch duchy Saxe-Ratzeburg-Lauenburg until his resignation in 1338.
  4. Eric V rule with his brother John IV, who never married, until the latter's death in 1414.
  5. Magnus II ruled with his brothers Francis II and Maurice.
  6. Francis II ruled with his brothers Magnus II (till 1588) and Maurice (till 1612).
  7. Maurice ruled with his brothers Magnus II (till 1588) and Francis II.
