Doosra (Sinhala; Sinhalese: '''දූස්රා''') a 2024 Sri Lankan Sinhala adult drama film directed and written by Channa Deshapriya and co-produced by Lakshan Abeynayake with Marc Tessier for Bonne Nuit Production and NJee Production.[2] [3] It stars Sajitha Anthony and Thilakshini Ratnayake in lead roles along with Shyam Fernando, Lakshan Abeynayake and Vasanthi Ranwala in supportive roles.[4] [5] The film marks the debut in Sinhala cinema by Lakshan Abeynayake, who established in French cinema as an actor.[6]
This is the second cinema direction by renowned cinematographer Channa Deshapriya after his 2019 blockbuster film U Turn.[7] Cinematography done by Dhammika Ratnayake and editing by Tissa Surendra. Samarasiri Kandanage made composition, whereas Lucky Wijewardene made the art direction. Daminda Madawala is the assistant director, Prasanna Kitalagama is the line producer and Production management handled by Praveen Ranasinghe. Music direction composed by Chinthaka Jayakodi, where lyrics penned by Asoka Handagama. Nipuni Sarada, Sajitha Anthony and Rohitha Jayalath made background vocals.[8]
Even though shooting was completed in 2019 and production completed in 2020, the film screening was halted due to COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka.[9]
The film was released in three global film festivals which included: Kolkata International Film Festival in 2022,[10] Moscow International Film Festival in 2023 and Dhaka International Film Festival in 2023.[11] [12] It was screened on 25 May 2024 at the 2 Rure Du cinema in France.[13] The film was released on 3 September 2023 at the Derana Film Awards under the category of "Cinema for Tomorrow".[14] [15]
