Dolichopus Explained

Dolichopus is a large cosmopolitan genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae. Adults are small flies, typically less than 8 mm in length. Nearly all species are metallic greenish-blue to greenish-bronze.[1] It is the largest genus of Dolichopodidae with more than 600 species worldwide.[2]

The name of the genus (Greek, Ancient (to 1453);: δολιχός, long, and Greek, Ancient (to 1453);: ποὺς, foot) refers to the length of the feet of its species.[3]
