Dasylirion (commonly referred to as sotols or hair-trees) is a genus of North American flowering succulent plants in the asparagus family, all native to Mexico and the American Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas).[1] In the APG III classification system, Dasylirion is placed in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Nolinoideae (formerly the family Ruscaceae).
Dasylirion are dioecious, with the male and female flowers on separate plants.[2]
