Dîno or Hozan Dîno or his real name is Yusuf Şahin (born 1969),[1] is a Kurdish artist who is well known for writing songs in Kurmanji. His most popular song being since its release.
Dîno was born in 1969 in the Kurdish village of Xêwîsqerê in Ardahan Province.[2] [3]
He began his education in a school located in (Hasköy, Ardahan). He excelled in his education and continued to a school in Gümüşhane, and later to a school in Istanbul. Because of personal reasons he had to quit his class.[4]
After some time in the framework of the Mesopotamian Cultural Center, he participates in musical activities for the first time. But due to financial reasons, he stopped his musical activities for a while. In the 90's, a war had started against the Kurds, which was still unnamed, and Dîno was also affected by this war. Therefore, in 1995, he was detained for "supporting a prohibited organization".
After his release, he had to leave the country in 1998, and this summer he applied for asylum in the Netherlands.[5]
Dîno released four albums with the help of Mîr and Kom Muzîk. The most interesting feature of his albums is that the lyrics and music are entirely Dîno's. With his unique voice, he accepted himself to the Kurdish people and took his place in Kurdish music.
