Prince Sumyeong was a Korean Royal Prince as the only son of Taejo of Goryeo and Grand Lady Heonmok.^[1] From all of his father's wives, just his mother whom held the highest title around the consorts but still below the queens.^[2] Although his wife was unknown, but they had a son, Wang Gyu, Prince Hongdeok (왕규 홍덕원군).^{[3] [4]}

Gyu married King Gwangjong and Queen Daemok's 3rd daughter (initially his half first cousin), which they had a daughter who would marry and become King Mokjong's first and primary wife, Queen Seonjeong. However, after his death, his wife was remarried again with King Seongjong and become his 1st wife (commonly known as Queen Mundeok).
