Cottonwood is a small rural hamlet in Jackson County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 12 at the 2020 census.[3] There are no businesses or services at Cottonwood.
Cottonwood was originally named Ingham, and under the latter name was laid out in 1906.[4] The present name comes from Cottonwood Creek.
Residents voted 7 to 4 in 2016 opposing dissolution of the town.[5]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.92sqmi, all land.[6]
