The enzyme coniferin β-glucosidase catalyzes the following chemical reaction:
coniferin + H2O
D-glucose +
coniferolIt belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those glycosidases that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds. The systematic name is coniferin β-D-glucosidase. It is also called coniferin-hydrolyzing β-glucosidase. It participates in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis.
