Congo River Alliance Explained

The Congo River Alliance is a coalition of rebel groups that seeks to overthrow the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The principal member of Congo River Alliance is the U.S. and UN sanctioned March 23 Movement, a Rwanda-backed rebel group.

On July 25, 2024, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on the Congo River Alliance.

On August 6, 2024, President FĂ©lix Tshisekedi accused former President Joseph Kabila of backing the Congo River Alliance.[1]
