Irish: Cois Fharraige|italic=no (pronounced as /ga/;), previously spelled Irish: Cois Fhairrge|italic=no, is a coastal area west of Galway city, where the Irish language is the predominant language (a Irish: [[Gaeltacht]]|italic=no). It stretches from Irish: [[Furbo, County Galway|Na Forbacha]]|italic=no, Irish: [[Barna|Bearna]]|italic=no, Irish: [[Spiddal|An Spidéal]]|italic=no to Irish: [[Inverin|Indreabhán]]|italic=no. There are between 8,000 and 9,000 people living in this area.
The area is most often included within the definition of Connemara, but some say that Connemara does not come as far south as the Galway Bay coast. The Irish: Cois Fharraige|italic=no accent is different from the Irish: [[Conamara Theas]] (south Connemara) accent - Irish: Conamara Theas was defined at a time when Gaeltacht Irish: Cois Farraige|italic=no was not considered part of Connemara.
The proportion of Irish speakers ranges from 24% in Irish: Bearna|italic=no to 84% in Irish: [[Kilcummin, County Mayo|Cill Chuimín]]|italic=no.
The headquarters for the Gaeltacht development authority Irish: [[Údarás na Gaeltachta]] is located in Irish: Na Forbacha|italic=no.
Irish: Bearna|italic=no, a Gaeltacht village, is regarded by some as a suburb of Galway City due to its proximity, but there are still Irish speakers in its hinterland, and it still retains its Gaeltacht status. Irish: An Spidéal|italic=no is majority Irish speaking and is the tourism centre of the region. Near Irish: Indreabhán|italic=no is Irish: [[Baile na hAbhann, County Galway|Baile na hAbhann]]|italic=no, home of the Irish language TV station TG4.
